July 2026 Friday’s e-links: A Fun Shortage

Every once in a while, (and sometimes each day) I listen to a great podcast, enjoy an article, or see a good video that I want to share with you. These are my e-links.

This week, I recommend a podcast that discusses a problem. The Big Take podcast from Bloomberg tells us that there is a fun shortage. As they explained, fun is more expensive, more crowded, more difficult to access. The result is a mismatch between supply and demand. Starting with a definition, the report said fun was the shared experience that we enjoy with family and friends. Because we are spending more time alone with our phones and computers we are having less fun. But also, on the supply side, unless you are quite affluent, fun can be unaffordable. Then further exacerbating the situation, the supply of fun–like new bars and camps and hotels–is not keeping up with a growing population.
